October 2007, Adelaide
We met at the Golden Gate Hotel in South Melbourne after work on the Friday evening for a warm up beer, and the mood was decidedly buoyant, such was the togetherness of this group. After downing a couple, and commenting on Greavesy's pecks, we car pooled to the state-of-the-art Avalon Airport and checked in. Onboard the lads partook in quizzes and childish food throwing just to bide the time. Pc was stuck up against the window as another old bloke verbally bashed his ears all the way to SA. A quick game of soccer in the airport and the boys were back up for a big night!
Once in Adelaide the lads dumped the bags and hit the town in search of some top bars to grab a drink. Hindley St was hardly a highlight, but it did provide a good laugh for the lads. The Worldends Pub was one venue for the evening, and we thought it would when this was the best we could muster amongst one of Adelaide's dodgiest bar strips. Thankfully we had another night to make amends, so we trudged back to the Blue Galah Backpackers, via the Duck & Dog where Alistair served up some moves in a late night dance-off with a local beefcake - sadly he had two left feet worse than Bond's and gave Al nothing. Needless to say it didn't take long for Al to show him up. In the wee hours of the morning, we realised Jaryd would need a bib if were to leave him alone! We decided to deny he was with us and tried to palm him off to the French backpacker in the kitchen.
The lads awoke slightly sore, but keen for a big day at the beach, and Greavesy keen to get his shirt off, so they took off towards Glenelg for the day. This would be one the highlights reel as the sun was shining a steamy 32 degrees and the boys were keen for run in the boardies. For some 5 hours we baked in the rays, played water-cricket, foot-volley-ball, 5-a-side with a Brazilian version of Brad, until heading back in for a beer, a shower and later a return to beach bars for the night. Much time was spent @ the Dublin Irish bar, with food, live band, football on the big screen and the usual tom foolery. A rumble on the beach front late on set the cat amongst the pigeons and some called it a night way too early. After a stop at the Church to see how the poor half lived, Jaryd picked the biggest bloke in the bar to start another rumble, but thankfully Greavesy took off his shirt and we were all friends again. Stu came over 5 mins later to see if things were alright, but by then Allan had claret streaming from his schnoz and wasn't happy. Some didn't make it home until after lunch the next day! I'm sure they have a few extra stories to tell. Sunday was a recovery session and the guys were happy with their efforts for EOS Trip 2007. Sunday was a recovery day and the boys did their own thing before meeting up at the airport for one final brewski. We arrived home to Melbourne late afternoon and went our separate ways. A good time had by all!
