Match Report - Royals 2009
ROYALS v Monash University
Round 6 - 31/05/2009
ROYALS KEEP FIRST CLEAN SHEET IN DOGGED DISPLAY

Another home game saw us take on Monash University who were an enigma of a team, some players were slow, others were using this game as practice to take on Usain Bolt. A change in formation saw Reahan up front, Pete on the wing and the keeper Nick back in the squad after his unavailability last week.

A few half chances for both sides followed but no real firm shots on target for either team. Reahan almost lobbed the keeper with a cheeky effort. At half time the score was 0-0 and we felt this match was in our hands and we could get our first win of the season. Monash started the second half with more spring in their step and we based our play on counter attacking football with multiple players streaming towards the box and Pete screaming his lungs out for the ball, in one instance his voice breaking to an embarrassing pitch. Pete followed this up with a tackle that our keeper described as a 'Rooney-esque lunge' and picked himself up a yellow card. Rolo being a bit jealous of this decided he too wanted a yellow card and was booked himself. Monash then pinned us down with a series of corners which Nick performed well to keep out. Pete made a goal line clearance and declared "this is going in the match report" and it did! An injury to Terry saw Kosta step up to fill the big mans shoes. Bruce, Branko, Sean and Bruce were stretched to their limits trying to preserve this win as we bombed balls down to try snatch one on the break with great runs by Steve, Jake,Daniel and Reahan. It wasn't to be however with the score remaining at 0-0, another point to Scotch and our first clean sheet of the season.
