ROYALS EARN FIRST POINT IN IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY
The Royals headed to HA Smith on the back of a humiliating 12-0 loss to RMIT; our opponents today were familiar in Bayside. With a slight formation tweak ensuring more man markers in midfield and defence we went about trying to stop the leaks at the back.
However in the first section of play Pete and Rob had shooting chances. Daniel 'accidently' elbowed an opposition player in the head, in his anger he sought revenge, screaming at the wrong guy, with Jake needing new underpants. A delicious lobbed through ball by Pete led Rob to a scrumptious finish, what was slightly more impressive was his attempt to jump over the corner flag, which seemed to catch him in the groin and cause the flag to fall off, promptly earning a yellow from our new favourite referee. With our heads up we were actually playing decent attacking football with Marcos and Rob having more chances in the first half. Unfortunately two late goals were conceded which caused us to go into the break 1-2 down, a disappointing result seeing as we had dominated the play.
The second half was more of the same, a few half chances, or passes that weren't quite met up front. Sean and Reahan were shutting down the midfield whilst first gamer Steve performed well and if any play got through, Branko/Jules/Terry were there to mop up. Sean scrumptiously set Rob up for his second of the game with a delicious first time shot past their flailing keeper. Brazilian import Marcos was sensationally sent off by the referee which meant we were forced to play with 10 men for the remaining half an hour. We took our foot off the accelerator and at times with Pete and Rolo acting as emergency wingbacks, the defence tightened and we were desperate in our defending with keeper Nick making some crucial saves. Despite this we still threatened their goal in the remaining minutes. 2-2 was the final score; if we were sharper in our finishing and had 11 players for the 2nd half perhaps the score line would have been brilliant. At the end of the day though it was our first point of the season, and hopefully things are on the up.
