ROYALS IN GOOD FORM BEFORE SPOON DECIDER
The Royals had a home game against Marcelin, and unlike the last time when we played them and lost 5-0 or 6-0 we thought we could grind out a result in this game. Steve was moved into the centre of the park by order of Shayne who was in charge in Terrys absence. Like a perfectly executed chess move this proved to be the reason for a strong performance today.
Before we knew it we had the lead, Daniel had slotted a ball to Ali who rocked it into the top of the net. For the third time this season we were winning a game, we started to think this could be our day. Daniel and James were relentless in their wingback roles whilst Paris was mopping up balls. Jake also impressed in a new role as a man marker. The team was linking incredibly well, it wasn't the usual paniced hoof up front and hope a striker can get onto the ball, we were moving the ball around well, creating options and were dominating the game with Rolo and Ali causing havoc for the defenders. After 20 minutes of being infront Marcelin grabbed a equaliser, quite fortunate for them in bounced off the post from a free kick and played pinball before ending up in the corner of the net.
At half time the score was 1-1 and we were still in this game, but Marcelin were starting to grab the upper hand. In the second half we were pegged back most of the time through wind and marking issues. Marcelin had shots but were shooting way off target and reducing the number of match balls we had! Roger once again volunteered to be goalkeeper and suffered an unlucky dip of a ball at a free kick which spilt to an on coming forward and our draw was now looking like a loss unless we could fight back. There were spirited runs from Ali, Dan, James, Roylance and Rolo but we lacked a penetrated pass that could have had us a shot at goal. Alas it did not come and we lost 1-2, but it was a narrow loss that we should have been proud of, our performance did dip but there were genuine signs of a contest. Steve played an exceptional game in the middle and along with Ali was most likely our best player. Caulfield next week, if we win this we might avoid the spoon, but relegation is assured.
Final Score 1-2
