ROYALS GO ONE BETTER
The Royals today were facing RMIT, the team that beat them 12-0 away from home, at HA Smith we fought for redemption, we were reminded of their laughing and goal celebrations and we were determined to attack this game differently.
However that did not go to plan at all as intended with goals being slotted in constantly for RMIT. Players such as Roylance and Steve were replaced early as the wingers were running wild. Still the goals came in. I don't need to give you a play by play explanation of their 9 first half goals. Each goal was infact quite similar, we'd lose the ball and the RMIT players were faster and stronger and making clever runs and calling for the ball, and the goals followed. Our best effort of the half was from Marcos who had a shot from a close angle.
The half time speech was again a request for 'front bottom' and just general reflections of the massacre which was at hand, at one stage they were averaging a goal every 2 minutes. Jake the Snake had to depart to a family function at half time and we missed his presence after Roylance walked off with a slight knee complaint. He was soon called back into action as the lesser of two injuries as Marcos came off with a thigh complaint. Our play was more composed, Steve who was troubled in the first half was performing brilliantly on the wing and shutting down their in form captain. RMIT did manage to score two goals mid way through the half but with no bench they lost a man to injury, making them have 10 players only Roylance who had recently attended the Paul Scholes Academy of Tackling injured another player. It was an ugly challenge but Karma prevailed as he missed two easy chances late in the game, brilliantly set up with the help of Rolo, Terry and Paris. Woeful shooting from the previous seasons Goldenboot winner and match report writer. The score ended at 11-0, not good at all, but there were positives. If Roylance had brought his shooting boots the second half would have been 2-2, its a minor consolation but our shocking first half effort let us down a lot. Although there were some jokes at the end of the game, no one likes losing especially by this margin, our next game is against Bayside a team we drew against, we must forget this slaughter and focus on what could be our first win of the season. A few key players should return as we fight hard in our relegation battle.
