SCOTCH REDS MAKE IT 3 WINS IN THREE!
The Scotch Red's faced rock bottom D.O.C this weekend in their final match before the mid season break. Desperate to keep the recent good run going, D.O.C who are yet to claim a point, offered Scotch the chance to jump a place up to mid table. After a shocking beginning to the year, the Red's have finally found their preferred formation and a settled starting eleven. The solid spine running through the middle of the pitch was thrown into disarray this week, however, with defensive giant John out injured, middle field captain Will and the striking pace man Chaz starting on the bench suffering slight fatigue.
The game started well enough with Scotch creating five or six clear cut chances, only to squander them all. D.O.C, having only arrived with ten men, were caught short in defence time and time again, yet fortunately for them, Scotch hadn't seemed to bring along their shooting boots. As the half began to pass, D.O.C came into the game more and more. Their eleventh player appear at the eleventh hour to give them a much needed boost. From about a quarter of an hour in until half time, the Red's game broke down into their worst performance of the season so far. With everyone fixated on getting on the score sheet and less concerned with where or on whom they were playing, tactically we disintegrated quicker than John could sink beers on the side lines. We had a left winger playing central mid, two players both believing they were right backs and an attacking midfielder intent on following the ball no matter where it went.
Half time couldn't arrive soon enough for both teams with the game still poised at nil nil. A few choice words by coach and captain as well as a reshuffle of personnel and positions promised a better second period. The promise came good as Scotch began short crisp passing moves all over the pitch. D.O.C were completely over run in mid-field and the wings, allowing Scotch to regularly play through to Rob and Chaz up front. The dead lock was finally broken with back-in-form Rob cooling slotting in from the left. Still slightly shaky at the back, the Red's pressed on up front. Aaron netted the second, with Rob getting his second and Scotch's fourth. The goal of the game was the third, picked up in the middle by Will and played long and wide to Rob on the left, who cut inside to feed Chaz a delightful ball, matched only by the equally impressive first time finish. A four nil win masked the first half problems but three wins on the trot was the main objective. Enjoy the break everyone, as the season starts over next game!
P.S. A mention must be made for Jarrod in his attempt(s) to score. He really does pay tribute to the old adage that "if at first you don't succeed, try, try....try....try....try.....try....try again". One day it will happen....we hope!
Final score 4-0
