SCOTCH REDS ON A ROLL UP THE TABLE
Two wins in two weeks eases the relegation fears of the Scotch Reds team. With a four nil drumming over the casual Boroondara Eagles outfit, Scotch leap frogged two places up the ladder to a more respectable sixth place. Indeed, next week could see us climb to mid table with D.O.C to be played at home, a team that although have drastically improved results in recent games, have still to pick up a point.
Scotch arrived at Boroondara with a squad size more akin to a puff daddy entourage, than the usual thread bare levels they have become accustom too. The sixteen players that made the short journey away from home included, 4 potent strikers, 11 want-to-be midfielders and a recognised keeper! Indeed, the team was so enlarged that poor Al C was completely forgotten by Tiddy and left to rot with linesman duty for the entire first half, despite the rolling substitution policy that Sunday football provides.
After the best warm up session of the season, Scotch started the first half brightly. The opposition was completely over run in mid-field with Wes, Jarrod and Will linking well with Chaz and Rob up front. Tiddy won almost every header, while John and Ian mopped up anything that came near the defence. The first goal came in a somewhat comical manner. After a great run from Chaz being illegally cut short, Rob's resulting free kick seemed to by-pass everyone including the keeper, for the ball to drop straight in the net. The pressure was kept up by Scotch throughout the half and eventually it told when Jarrod was chopped down in the box giving the Reds there second pen of the season. Tiddy calmly strode up the field slotting the ball high and left, only to be forced to take it again after the Ref blew for encroachment. Desperate to be on a score sheet this season, Tiddy was never going to miss, sending the hapless Boroondara keeper the wrong way again, slotting the same side, just inside the post .
As the first half closed and the second began, the Reds were creating chance after chance but simply could not convert. Indeed, from the whole afternoon, this was the only note of concern as it could prove key in tougher games. Will narrowly missed over the bar, several one on ones were not scored and no one seemed to have the drive to latch onto the various crosses that zipped in from either flank by Chris and Jeremy.
With wholesale changes mid way through the second half, play began to get sloppy. Scotch found themselves having to do the first sustained defending of the game. Despite this rocky patch, the Reds held firm, with Wardy solid in goal and new boy Daniel shutting out the opposition playmaker.
Finally, two quick identical goals by Shayne setting up Rob to slot home effectively ended the match and sealed the three points. The Scotch juggernaut is beginning to roll...D.O.C better look out!
Final score 4-0
