Match Report - Reds 2009
REDS v Berwick City
Round 4 -17/05/2009
REDS IMPROVE AGAIN BUT STILL AWAIT FIRST WIN

This week saw the Reds host Berwick City at home. We had begun the season hoping that H.A Smith would be an impenetrable arena, installing fear into the opposition similar to that of Old Trafford or the Nou Camp. Unfortunately the home team had seen 8 goals shipped in only one game at their beloved home ground. Thus Berwick City offered us a chance to cure this aliment, and who better to have in your team for such a problem than 'THE DOC'!.........no not the great Karl Kennedy from Neighbours but Chris (whiter than white) Harley.

The game stared well for the Red's with the talk up, the passing neat and defence solid. It was the home team creating all the opportunities, with Chaz, Dawsy, Jarrod and Chris all failing to find the back of the net. Berwick had barely a sniff at goal, their only effective weapon being the long throw of their captain.

All this good work from the Reds deserved a goal, and so it duly came with a cracker from the influential Jeremy. A sometimes bit part player last season, Jeremy has transformed into a certain starter in the mid-field. After his bullet header last week and a finishing display to embarrass Giesh at training mid week, Jeremy fired a left footed drive pass the stranded Berwick keeper. The end of the half saw some jittery moments but Scotch held on.

The second half began much as the first ended, Berwick on top and apply the pressure. The pressure told when a through ball left a two-on-one situation on the flank. A neat ball over the top from the unchallenged winger allowed the Berwick striker through on goal. A clever lob over Stef in goal brought the game level. What Tiddy had asked for was a sterner defence and concentration while under the cosh and for the first time this season the Red's seemed to take notice of what he had said. Rather than crumbling after the equaliser, Scotch held on for a fairly even half to secure a second draw on the bounce. Indeed, they had one great chance to nick the winner after some great work and passing from Chris left Chaz with the keeper at his mercy, only to shoot wide (going for a throw on wide!!).  The Ref did his best to ruin the Red's game and even gave an appalling penalty decision in favour of Berwick, which Stef saved brilliantly low to his left. Next week sees us away to 3rd placed South Yarra so another big performance (and a win) is needed.

Final score 1-1
